The "BadLands" Bowie... Where to begin... This is one impressive piece. It features 500 layers of Forge Patterned DEathmascus (80crv2/15n20)...It also features the same top tier heat treat that you see on my damascus swords that slice though entire hogs in one swift swing and remain razor sharp cut after cut... This whole thing received the same amount of intense attention that I give my swords. It Features an aggressive damascus pattern, skull and bones grail mark, slight recurve swoop profile, and a razor sharp mirror polised edge. The aggressive pattern is due to my forging technique using my hand hammer and tire hammer for a majority of the process. The hand forged texture is still visible on the ricasso of the blade. I hand forged the steel guard and hot fitted it to the tang for a nice seating fit up. The guard features hand forged texture, ring quillions, hammer forged copper rivets, and if you look very closely my "W over M" touchmark! I forged the bolster from solid copper. After forging it and makeing a tight filed/forged fit up I then used my hammer and small chisel to cut a textured line down the middle a full 360 degrees around the bolster. The close up details of it are a feast for the eyes. I also did a rustic finish on it with dark depth and bright polished highs. The handle is a Frame Fit Up! This is only the second frame handled blade Ive ever done. It is a challenging and time consuming process. the core is Real vintage Westing house LE Micarta that was sourced from a Louisiana shipyard. Some really rare and cool 100 year old material! I paired shipyard micarta with some highly figured stablized Maple Wood with 13 copper through pins. The Handle is then attached with gflex marine grade epoxy and one domed copper through pin. This bowie is an absolute beauty. A high performance, heirloom quality, piece of functional art! Adding to the bowie... It comes with a custom made REal Alligator leather sheath. This Gator was taken off our local Escambia River. We have to put in for gator tags and if we are lucky enough get drawn to recieve them. So aside from the challenges of the hunt, the challenge of actually getting tags is another obstacle to overcome. This gator this skin came from was an exceptionally angry and tough gator. My Bro is an experienced Gator Hunter with countless gator kills under his belt and his said to this day this gator put up the longest fight of any gator he has taken. This gator was 10ft long but put up a more challenging battle than even the 12 footers hes went up against. The over 2 hour fight only ended when the gator drowned himself wrapped in a submerged log. A well respected beast of the swamp! After dressing out the gator and breaking down the meat me and my apprentice Brandon fleshed and tanned out the hide here at the shop! Using our salt tanning method we are able to retain the original colors of the gator! Again another touch adding to this overall piece! Along with that angry gator skin the sheath features heavy veg tanned leather, 9 forged copper rivets, black stitching, leather retention strap with matte black snap, ornate hand tooling, embossed gator textured belt loop/retention strap, and a unique antique hand painted/stained finish. The sheath is equally impressive as the bowie.
