Alright Here We Go!!!! The first ever Forged Brass coin from Pirate Forge!!!! I love these!! Brass just has a different feel and look! And that yellow color! Good stuff... So here's the skinny.... Ive been chomping at the bit to make some brass coins. But Brass is very tough to cold forge. It took me about all day to forge one coin on my 25 ton press! having to anneal it over 18 times and press it 54 times... Yeah I actually did that because I would not be defeated. Well I gave that coin to my apprentice Brandon as a Chrismas present. And we hustled hard to buy a $19,000 60 ton hydraulic press..... The most Ive ever spent on a tool for the Forge. It was the kind of power we needed to whip this brass into shape!!! I mean we needed it for Damascus and other forging of hammers and axes. But as a plus Id have the power to make brass coins!! So lets get to how I made em...These are made from "Casing Brass." I took my old brass casings from 22LR, 9mm, 300BLK, and 45-70 Government rounds and melted them down in a furnace. I then poured each Brass ingot one at a time. Brass is super crazy making wild colors and being very temperamental.... the pour needs to be swift and done in one puddle. Even at proper temps the Brass solidifies way faster than silver. After the ingot was poured I then ground down the tops and the sides not only to get it perfectly shaped for the press but to remove any of the surface impurities and small voids.. These such things are only present on the outer parts of the ingot. So doing it this way results in a pure brass ingot. I then take it to my 60ton press and SMASH! after smashing I Anneal the brass taking it to a glowing red and quenching in water... I then repeat this process 6 times with perimeter cleanup on the grinder and some wire brush work. After all the details get forged into the coin I then clean up the perimeter one last time to get everything clean and even. Then after a good wash and scrub I blacken the brass coins. I then dry and tumble them to lighten the highs. These are now the "antique finished" coins. I then hand pick the ones to go to the next step on the way to become "polished" coins. I spend a while on the buffers taking the rims to a high polished glowing finish. I also buff both faces of the coins so that they have a shining glow as well. Both styles are awesome and beautiful. The front is the skull and bones touchmark with "NAY" under it. The back side is my gothic cross with W over M (my initials) and "YAY" under it. These coins can be used as decision coins. If you have a tough decision to make just flip that coin and it will guide you in the right direction. Just remember the only bad decision made is no decision. One must take action and adjust course as needed. You can take that to the bank.... These coins are a great deal of work as well as the cost of the crazy tools needed to make them possible.. But im still gonna list them for the same price as the others Ive been doing. This is a thank you to all of those who continue to invest in us and drive Pirate Forge further.. So Thank you! and I hope you add at least one of the Brass coins to your collection!
