After the super popular first drop of the Forged Copper Pirate Coins I had to do a few Silver ones!!! I was a little hesitant at First not only due to the current price of silver but the extra work and care to make them out of Silver... So here we go.... First I take .999 fine silver coins/bullion ( in this case it was coins) and melt them in my furnace... After getting the right temp and hold time I then hand pour them into a graphite mold making a silver ingot. I then prep that ingot Correcting shape if needed with my hammer and anvil then anneal it. I have to heat the silver up it has a mesmerizing glowing red/orange then water quench. From there I go to my forging press dropping 25 tons each hit! I spend a good bit of time running cycles of annealing and forging the Silver Ingot. This takes several cycles ( 6-7 to be exact) before the coin is up to the standards of detail we accept here at the shop. Just like the Copper Coins, Each coin is subjected to a cumulative total of 1.2 million pounds worth of pressure!!!!!! lets say 6 cycles with 4 presses each cycle. That's 24 squeezes of a 25 ton hydraulic press! Which comes out to 600 tons or 1.2mil pounds... ooohhh yeah! And while we are on the subject a lot of Silver Coins on the market are "POURS"..... meaning the silver is melted and then poured into a mold. That's the end of heavy work, the rest is cleanup and marking by the maker. Not trying to take away from those who make pours (because even in pours there is work and skill) but these coins I make have much more steps and are actually forged not only making for impressive detail but hardening the Silver... Just like the blades and other art made at Pirate Forge These coins are standouts in the world. Anyways, After the Forging I take the coin and clean up and even out the shape/perimeter of the coin by hand forging it on my small anvil with my Damascus "wee hammer." This is a little hammer I forged back in 2019 using leftover 1095/15n20 high carbon steel left over from my Falchion I won forged in fire with. After that I laser engrave the number and "999FS" denoting being made from .999 Fine Silver. These coins are numbered and will only be sold on webpage drops just like this. This not only makes them more exclusive it helps to preserve Authenticity. There will only ever be one #1, #2, #3, etc. After that I do some fine detailed cleanup with my mini wire brush/dremel. Then I darken each coin one at a time. After a good penetrating darkening I neutralize it then it goes for a trip in the stonewasher for a bit. After that I again take the coin one at a time and work on the buffer bringing the highs to a shiny polished finish. I then clean up the coins with a soft brush. They are absolutely incredible looking and feeling! Just check out the photos and videos. Again more Jewelry grade piece of art than just a coin. Amazing.
Each coin is a handmade one off. No two are the same. I will include the ounce weight of each coin. All other aspects will differ very slightly. Also as market value of silver changes so will prices of coins.
