Hand Forged Pirate MACHETE! If you didnt know already, machetes are my favorite style of blade! You've seen my take on bolo machetes, and the giant Headhunter machete!  On this build I wanted to put my spin on the "classic" machete... This blade was forged from an upcyled leaf spring (grain structure and hardness was assessed).  The blade features blade spine filework, ground fullers, forged finish flats and high polished primary flat grinds blending into a subtle convex edge.  That was a mouthful but im not done..... The handle is is dyed Kosso wood and copper liners with a 11 pin constuction.  The large hollow copper pins are placed after the handle is shaped then hammer peened for added mechanical hold of the scales.  The handle construction along with the heat treat makes this piece a tank!  This Machete comes with one of my unique handmade scabbards.  I used Oak wood in a 3 piece construction.  I dressed the scabbard up with a good deal of hand tooled leather accents.  The retention strap is snapped on both sides, making the scabbard ambidextrous.   The retention strap can be moved from the locked position to wrapping over the top of the scabbard, allowing the blade a gravity hold and making for fast withdrawal. Even the metal ring was handforged by me for this scabbard! I topped it off with some hand carvings and my WM signature on both sides.  (Both sides are near mirror images) Make sure to scroll through the above pictures to see the scabbard.  It is just as much a work of art as the blade itself!
